Description Fastener with unified external threads, a cylindrical head with a flat and beveled surface. Cylindrical and knurled sides with a hexagon socket for adjustment. Application Precision assembly work and applications that require a better machined appearance. Higher tensile strength than grade 5 or 8 hex screws of the same size, while requiring less bearing surface due to internal torsion. Stainless socket socket screws have a lower tensile strength than steel screws, but have a higher resistance to corrosion. They also retain their mechanical capabilities at temperatures above room temperature.
Material Steel alloyed with min 0.31% carbon, max 0.040% phosphorus, max 0.045% sulfur and one or more of the following elements to achieve the desired strength: chromium, nickel, molybdenum and vanadium. Steels 302, 303, 304, 304, 305, 384, XM1, or XM7.
Heat Treatment Hardening in oil above the transformation temperature. Tempered to a temperature of not less than 650° F The only heat treatment available for stainless alloys is annealing. Performed at approximately 1900° F. Normally not thermally reversible.
Hardness 0-1/2" D: Rockwell C39min. 5/8" or more D: Rockwell C37 min. Rockwell B80 min.
Tensile strength 0-1/2" D: 180,000 psi min. 5/8" or more D: 170,000 psi min. 80,000 psi min
Elastic limit 0-1/2" D: 162,000 psi min. 5/8" or more D: 153,000 psi min. 30,000 psi min.
Elongation 10% min (Applies to screws 4 times its diameter in length.) 10% min (Applies to screws 4 times its diameter in length.)
