A490 or ASTM A490 bolts are high strength structural bolts used in structural steel connections. A490 Screws have heavy hex heads, a full diameter and are usually short in overall length since they are connecting steel to steel. Unlike A325 bolts, A490 bolts are higher strength bolts and are called structural because of their physical and chemical characteristics. These bolts range in diameter from 1/2″ to 1-1/2″ and are manufactured from medium carbon alloy steel that is cooled and tempered to develop the desired mechanical properties.
